Find something that inspires you

Back to blog archive

Spend some time every day doing something that inspires you or makes you feel some sort of admiration of the world. It could be reading an awe-inspiring book, watching a motivational video, listening to a song you love or even having a deep conversation with someone.  You don’t need to spend a long time doing this, just make sure to find some time for it every day, even if it’s just 15 minutes.

Get the simple jobs done first

There’s nothing worse than creating a mental to do list and stressing about the days you have left to get everything done, and it’s incredibly hard to motivate yourself to even start. If you keep procrastinating and don’t know where to start, do the simple, non-time-consuming jobs first, like responding to that email you keep forgetting about or getting all the laundry done. It will give you the feeling of progress and motivate you to keep going. This way you also don’t have to have so much on your mind at once.

We recommend this book if you really struggle with productivity:

Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy

And this one if you are just generally messy and need some advice:

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying:
A simple, effective way to banish clutter forever by Marie Kondo

Talk to someone

It’s not always easy to get the people close to you to listen, they might not be aware that you need them or be able to support you in the way that you need. People close to you can listen and understand but there’s a world of difference between friendly advice and professional support. There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help. The stigma around therapy is decreasing as it slowly becomes the norm. We have no problems using other professionals to meet our physical health needs so why should or emotional health be any different? Counselling services are simply here to help you get a better understanding of yourself, and enable you to make the changes you want to see in your life.
